PROGRAM REVIEW AT UCFBeginning in 1976, the State of Florida began system-wide review of its academic programs. The reviews were designed to aid in academic planning and to identify area of strength and weakness in the system. Through the process, which incorporated the expertise of external consultants to assess programs, five actions were initially taken by the Board of Regents. These included: program approval, program termination or approval, coordination and cooperation between universities and private colleges within the state, budgetary consideration, and other state-wide planning. Pursuant to Florida Statute, UCF conducts in-depth reviews of our programs at least every seven years. In 1999, the then Board of Regents gave the universities that authority to define their own process, content within some broader guidelines. UCF developed a process consistent with its strategic planning process. The primary purpose is to examine the quality and productivity of academic programs with a goal to determine which programs to enhance, reduce, maintain, eliminate, or study further.
